Drones are transforming the way visual inspections are being carried out, from domestic buildings to wind and solar farms.
The purpose of a visual inspection is to assess structures and industrial assets to ensure they fit within quality standards and to identify any areas of concern early on that may otherwise lead to an expensive and time-consuming fix. Previously, these inspections have been carried out with inspectors using scaffolding, elevated platforms or rope access within dangerous locations to inspect assets with their naked eye.
Drones allow visible and recordable data to be collected and reviewed from the safety of the ground, reducing risk and providing the ability for the data recorded to be archived and used in any future disputes, issues or complaints raised. Drones also reduce or even negate any down time of an asset that may otherwise be required for an inspection to be completed, saving organisation's time and money.
