WHAT IS 2D MAPPING?
An orthomosaic map is an image of an area of land, produced by stitching a number of images together to create one high quality detailed image where survey grade measurements can be taken. In essence, like google maps but more accurate and clearer.
WHAT IS 3D MAPPING?
3D Mapping, or Photogrammetry, is the technique of creating a 3D model from a large number of overlapping photographs taken in a methodical manner. A large amount of data can be abstracted from these maps that can be hugely beneficial in urban planning, engineering, coastline management, construction and surveying to name a few.
HOW DOES PHOTOGRAMMETRY WORK?
Photogrammetry software is very advanced and extracts thousands of different measurements from each image and compares this information with every photo taken from different angles and heights. Analyzing these measurements to create data points and uses the points to create a ‘points cloud’ that is a collection of thousands of points that together represent an object or shape. This is then displayed as a 3D model that can be textured to create an accurate and solid model.
